Playing God

Basic Plot

Sara is a recent high school graduate on the last days of her summer break, dreading her soon-to-arrive attendance at the local Bible College. As her grades were poor and her family cannot easily afford tuition, however, she must spend at least a year at the school as it was the only institution to award her a full scholarship (for, after all, her self-professed "heathen" nature makes her a decided minority there). The loss of the majority of her friends and the coming classes filled with new and potentially-hostile faces makes her long for a way out of her current situation.

Jehovah is the Abrahamic deity. While His churches, temples, and mosques have spread across the globe, He has lost much in the way of true believers. Millions attend services in his name, but no longer believe in His existence even as they honor His deeds. Jehovah has thus lost much of His influence as a god because His followers are too interested in the society and the excuses of their religion to truly see and embrace faith in it. As a result, other deities have begun encroaching on His domains and long-defeated gods have reemerged to challenge His dominance. They have invested the faith of their believers well, while Jehovah's miracles and prophets have mostly been destroyed or defeated by others numbering among His own "followers." This has cost Him ground, and led to increasingly-desperate measures as He tries to hold on to his remaining power.
